Every year, the City of Roses throws itself a big party, in the form of the Portland Rose Festival. The city’s official festival includes more than 60 events, starting with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Portland Half Marathon (May 17) and concluding with the Rose Cup Races (June 12–14). In between, there are parades, carnival rides, concerts and fun galore. Best of all, you’re invited!

Radio variety show Live Wire has enchanted local audiences for over a decade with a fast-paced program of sketches, interviews, bands and more, and is now positioned as a potential replacement for public radio’s most popular live variety program, A Prairie Home Companion.

Hosted by National Public Radio personality and humorist Luke Burbank, the show presents “radio variety for the new(ish) millennium” by blending old-time vaudeville with contemporary style and quick wit. Catch a live taping of the show at Portland’s new Revolution Hall.
