Celebrate your love of wine by spending the day with the North Willamette Vintners as they prepare for the 2013 Oregon wine harvest. You can get in on the action during the North Willamette Harvest Trail and Grand Tasting (Oct. 5).

Less than 30 miles from downtown Portland, you’ll enjoy a guided bus tour to three wineries for complimentary tastings, nibbles and hands-on harvest preparation activities at each stop. Walk the vineyard, visit the crush pad and tour the winery to discover each step of the wine-making process with the professionals. The day concludes with a “Grand Tasting” event featuring samples from 25 nearby wineries.

In this exhibit, at the Oregon History Museum through Sept. 29, you’ll get a rare chance to view the Congressional Gold Medal that was awarded to Japanese-American World War II veterans in 2011, along with an accompanying exhibit developed by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. The medal recognizes these veterans’ exceptional service, sacrifice and loyalty to America, even while many of their parents and other family members were held in internment camps.
